EXCERPT ...
Soon we found ourselves at the front steps of the Hamilton Estate, where a white, and silver-uniformed butler held open one of the massive doors to the stately mansion.
“Madam,” he said, nodding to me, before turning to Levi. “Sir.”
We swept into what I assumed was the grand hallway. A pair of white marble staircases encased the expansive room, with fairy lights, and greenery entwined in its banisters. People adorned in flashy formalwear, and costumes filled the hall, all chatting, and slowly filing toward the double doors open at the far end.
My mouth dropped open when we entered the ball room. Hanging from the ceiling were silver stars of various shapes, and sizes, edged with glitter, between magnificent crystal chandeliers.
Throughout the room were potted trees decked with fairy lights, and intricately carved ice sculptures. The ceiling, and walls, were draped in white tulle, and blue and violet lights were projected everywhere, giving an atmosphere of a fairy kingdom.
There was an orchestra in one corner, and as the guests danced, the silver stars on their strings lazily swayed, reflecting light around the room in a dazzling display.
Waiters dressed as Victorian-era footmen in white, and silver livery, artfully carried trays of champagne, and canapés through the crowd, stopping to offer a flute of golden ambrosia here, or a delicious titbit there. Levi let go of my arm just long enough to snag two glasses, and offered one to me.
“I know you don’t usually drink, Precious,” he said tactfully. “After this one toast, we’ll see if we can find you something more to your liking.”
I gave him a shrewd look, but I accepted it gracefully. How does this man know so much about me? One of these days, Mr. Levi Webber, you and I are going to have to sit down, and have a very frank discussion. But, not tonight.
Uncomfortably aware that Levi’s mask hardly hid his identity, and that we were an object of curiosity, I lifted my glass to his when he raised it. He leaned towards me, and placed his lips close to my ear.
“To fairy-tales, and fantasies, and making them all come true---for you, and for me, Precious.”
The heat of his words flustered me, and I felt myself blush at the thought of his long fingers, and what they had been doing to me in the back of his limousine just mere minutes before. The core of me was still tingling and moist, and the feel of his breath on my cheek made me start to ache again.
I leaned into him, so that his lips were now touching my skin, and moaned just the slightest bit. He traced his mouth down to my tender lips, and leisurely licked the inside of my lower one.
A hearty voice boomed behind me, and made me jump. Levi pulled back, and chuckled as I turned. The voice belonged to a pirate, complete with red velvet frock coat, and a flowing ebony wig. A ridiculously bright, and somewhat bedraggled, stuffed parrot perched on his shoulder.
“You two need to find a room! That kiss could very well get you brought up on public indecently charges, man!” The pirate clapped Levi on the back affectionately. “How have you been, matey? And who is this tasty young morsel that you’ve practically been devouring in front of everyone?”
Levi made the introductions.
“Sebastian, this is my date for the evening. Her name is...Precious. Precious, this drunken sailor is my...my old friend, Sebastian.”
Sebastian leered at me out of the eye not covered by a black patch. His good hand was occupied with a cocktail, so he extended his hook. Tentatively I took it, and he brought my hand to his lips. His dark eye twinkled at me, and he grinned, his white teeth a contrast with his smooth olive skin.
“I must say, Levi, your taste in women has improved a great deal.”
Ahhhh, not a fan of Miss Fifi Jackson then. Those around us close enough to eavesdrop, took notice of his words.
Sebastian stepped closer to us.
“Fifi is here,” he said in a low voice. “I don’t know the bloke she dragged in to escort her, but if you want me to run interference...”
Suddenly, I felt a knot of nervous apprehension. Fuck! What have I gotten myself into? My delight in the evening faded a little.
“Of course she would be here,” Levi responded smoothly. “This is the event of the season, and it would be natural for her to attend.”
“I just wanted to warn you. She’s been tossing back the champagne like its water, and you know how our Feef gets when she’s pissed.”
Levi’s lips tightened a little.
“Fifi and I have an understanding. It would be in her best interest to behave herself, but we’ll try to avoid her just the same.”
“If she starts throwing things like priceless vases, I’ll have your back!” Sebastian saluted me with his hook. “It was a pleasure, Beautiful!”
