Toni was still asleep when I left for my run. I had heard her stumble through the door a few hours earlier, so I knew she would probably still be asleep by the time I got home.

The streets were almost deserted. Pounding the pavement with every stride, my iPod playing in my ears, I punished myself for my stupid slip-up last night. Sweat began to bead, and run down my back, and in between my breasts, soaking my shirt.

I had been totally disarmed by the mysterious Levi Fucking Webber. Still angry with myself, I pushed harder, and faster. No matter how hard, and fast I ran, I still couldn’t shake the delicious feel of his lips on my mouth, his tongue savoring my taste.

Groaning out loud, I couldn’t believe he had such an impact on me. It’s been four years since you’ve let anyone touch you, so what did you expect? My consciousness was right. What in the hell did I expect? My body had reacted to the first touch I’d allowed in so long from a man, awakening desires in me that I thought were dead, and buried long ago.

The traffic was beginning to build up, and I’d run myself to the point of exhaustion. My burning legs were letting me know it. Right now, all I could think of was soaking in a hot bath, thoughts of the mysterious dark-haired man pushed to the back of my mind. For now.

“Sammi--can I come in?” Toni yelled, knocking on the bathroom door.

Here it comes. Inquisition time!

My aching muscles had only just started to relax in the warm water, lulling me to a meditative state. The bathroom was filled with the sweet smell of strawberries, thanks to the bubble bath I added to the water. Taking a deep breath, I exhaled slowly, remaining calm.

“Yes.”

She came in, and I sensed her take a seat on the edge of the bath. Opening my eyes, I saw she was obviously dying of curiosity to find out exactly what had taken place last night.

“What happened between you, and Kiara at the club?”

“Nothing.”

I didn’t know what else to say. I couldn’t for the life of me think what I’d done to be on the receiving end of her anger toward me.

“You must have done something, or said something--she’s not normally like that.”

“If you can think what it could be, would you let me know, so I don’t do it again? ‘Cause I have absolutely no idea!”

“Did you ask her?” Toni persisted.

“I tried. I mean, I went to. Then I got stopped by that Levi guy, and got a little---distracted, I suppose.”

I wrinkled my nose, deep in thought. Thinking about her reaction to Levi got me thinking, and suddenly I gasped.

“Do you remember when she said something about that new client at her office that she’s taken an interest in?”

Toni thought for a minute, before I saw the understanding reflect through her face.

“You don’t think that Levi is the same guy she was talking about, do you?”

She voiced the very same thoughts I was having.

“I’m trying to remember if she said his name at all. I wasn’t really listening when she was talking about it.”

Toni smirked.

“You tend not to when we talk about men.”

“Yeah well, with my experience, it’s better that way. My track record’s not that great!” I grimaced at her.

“At least you can talk about it now with a hint of humor.” She saw me chewing on my bottom lip. “What’s up?”

“I just---it’s weird. Both times I’ve run into that Levi guy, I get a mental image of…” I looked up at her. I think she understood what I was trying to convey. “…you know who.”

The look of horror on her features, while her head drew back, and her eyes widened, would have been comical if he hadn’t been the cause for my four years of exile from the male species.

“You’ve got to be kidding, right?” her voice rose an octave. “You actually think about that creep when you’ve encountered this guy at the club? Is your sixth sense trying to tell you something? Like ‘don’t go near him with a ten-foot barge pole’? Jesus, Samantha! That’s a warning if ever I heard one. What do you think makes you think of him? Is that what happens all the time, or has it been just with this one guy at the club?”

Shit. Toni was firing a million questions at me at once.

“Once in a while,” I admitted to her.

But both times I have been in his presence? She was right. It was definitely a warning.

“It’s happened a couple other times, here, and there, but with this guy, it just keeps popping up in my head, out of the blue,” I shrugged.

Words couldn’t really describe it. She was shaking her head, with a determined look in her eye.

“That does it. We’ll just go back to one of the old clubs to hang out in. I think it would be wise to steer clear of Lucifer’s Den. Hell---he’s probably fucking Lucifer himself,” she snorted, and shook her head.

Maybe she was right.

“I agree. No more Lucifer’s Den!

I felt as if a great weight was removed from my shoulders. I will never darken the doorstep of Lucifer’s again.
