EXCERPT ...
A courier hand delivered the black, and silver etched strong box to my office, and I turned my wrist to check the time. Eleven o’clock? I’ll be looking for another printer for next year’s invites. These should have been here at nine. My instructions had not been followed, and I abhorred tardiness.
The invitations for the annual event at Seduction had finally arrived. At least the printing firm used the bloody strong box I supplied them with. I was in possession of the only key that could open it. Inserting the key, I twisted the heavy lock open, and lifted the lid, extracting the top embossed card for close inspection. The black scripted writing on the deep purple card with bold, silver edging, worked well. After a quick check the information contained on the elegant invitation was correct, I requested Audrey summon Clive to take them down to Chelsea at Frangipanis. She had the mailing list, and would see they were all hand delivered to every member, before the day was out.
The couriers would be oblivious to exactly what it was they were delivering. If they only knew. I took great pains to ensure no-one was ever curious enough to open one up. As long as I drew breathe, that day would never dawn, and our secrets would remain secrets. Many of us were known to each other. We didn’t want to be known to the world. It was also the main reason why Seduction’s annual event was so popular within our elite community. These invitations were coveted. There was only one way to receive one. A current member had to extend an offer. And my members were extremely selective. Although each member received an invitation to extend, it did not necessarily mean every one of them was distributed. Members were not required to extend them. In the eight years Seduction had been in existence, not once had all invitations been offered, and accepted. Some were never offered. Others had been offered, but were invariably refused. There were no wrong, or right reasons.
Members were under no obligation to offer one. Equally, the person chosen to receive one was under no obligation to accept. Why in the fuck haven’t the damn confidentiality agreements arrived yet? Arrowsmith needs a fucking kick up the ass.
