Hello from the Goldfields

Hello from the Goldfields of Western Australia.

Well, we had a bit of a taste of summer for a few days before Mother Nature decided to throw a spanner in the works and made it cold enough to light the fire with a bit of a storm thrown in, and opened the heavens again. At least we won't have to water the gardens again for another week.

Last time I spoke to you all, I was editing His Word ... Detraction, which is the 2nd book in The Shattered Series - which follows on from the 4 book Trusted Saga. (None of these books are stand alone - they have to be read in order). As this book took me a long time to write (due to life events and because the series has 8 main characters), I wasn't sure what readers would think of it. Along with editing it, I had to write a blurb, which I admitted wasn't my strong point.

After the first round of edits, I came up with a blurb. I kept that close to my chest until I was half way through the second round of edits, then I sent the blurb off to my beta reader, with a comment that I knew she couldn't say whether the blurb fit the book or not until she'd read it. This is the response I got ...

"The blurb sounds great !! Full of angst and drama, can't wait to read it."

Awesome! I was happy with what I'd written as a blurb, but just tidied it up a bit before I sent the book to her. I completed the second edit, then sent it on to my trusted beta reader on the 12th of November.

After I sent the book to her, I decided (to be more accurate, Levi, Sebastian and Angelica decided for me) that there will be 4 books in this series. After His Word ... Detraction, there will be His Word ... Depraved - and beleive me, it will be depraved. I already have the title for the final boo, book 4, which I'm going to keep secret for now.

On the 14th of November, I got this email from my beta reader ...

"Update #1....OMFG !!!! I'm through the first 7 chapters and I can't stop turning the pages !!! So far I've not found ANY spelling mistakes. Story plot is fucking fantastic, moving right along at a steady pace, no chance to get bored with the story. Characters are easy to relate to as you've done a great job telling the readers about them in the moment. I'm taking a short break so I can rest my eyes for a bit. 🤓 More to follow later. At this clip of reading, it shouldn't take too long. Take a breath and relax now, it's a GREAT book ! Love much and hugs ❤"

What fantastic feedback! I was elated and on cloud nine after getting that email. As the book is 29 Chapters long, I wasn't expecting anything further for days.

On the 15th of November, the following day, I got this email from my beta reader ...

"GUESS WHAT ? I'VE FINISHED THE BOOK !!! OMFG !!! What a story. You've nailed this one but good. I could not stop turning the pages !!!! SERIOUSLY !!!! I found ONLY one spelling mistake you missed, Ch. 21 Loc. 3463/4710........The word reads as "staked".....should be "stalked" to read correctly in the sentence context. I certainly hope you write the next installment FAST !!!! I CANNOT WAIT for it to come out. Every turn of the page turned a twist in this story that hooked the reader deep. You can't help but NOT read this story unfold and get caught up in the saga of their lives and hope for good to triumph over evil. Thank you for the honor of letting me read it for you, It was fucking awesome !!!!! Much love and hugs Carol ❤💋 muah"

For those of you who would usually download this book on Booksprout, I'm sorry to say that a few have spoiled it for the many. Every one of my titles have 3 to 4 people who just download the book and don't bother leaving a review, and there are 2 others who just copy and paste whatever they feel like as a review - for example, Alison's Awakening, which is a whopping 766 pages long, got a review saying that it was a short story. I mean, WTF? It's the longest book I've written. And the longest many have read ! So, unfortunately, I will not be putting any more of my books on that site.
